2010 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
After completing a very arduous season in 2009 highlighted by a high player turnover and coaching changes, we enter season 2010 with renewed hope and excitement at upcoming challenges.
The 2010 season sees the appointment of new Head Coach Adam Friend. Adam is a former Gunghalin Eagles, ACT representative & Brumbies player. He has had extensive coaching experience in both Japan and the United States including as Backs Coach for the American national team. He is also currently working with the Brumbies as their Kicking Coach. Adam will manage a coaching staff including Phil Burrell, Jamie Mawson, Julio Caggiano, John Whakatini, Mike Hogan and Gordon Scott. Club Conditioner Dan Kite will assist all coaches to ensure players are physically fit and ready to play rugby at their chosen level.
On the playing side of the equation we have again undergone significant changes, especially within the First Grade squad. We have lost almost half our team due to player retirements and overseas players returning home. However these situations present challenges and opportunities to both the club and individual players. Working closely with the Board, Adam has been successful in attracting several exciting players to our club in 2010. On top of this we have a number of our younger players who gained a lot of experience last season and who will relish the opportunity to challenge for a First Grade position.
The 2010 season will see the continuation of our partnerships with all of our 2009 season sponsors, headed by Major Sponsor Fyshwick Self Storage. The First Grade Jumper Sponsors are again Binutti Constructions and Schiavello (ACT) Pty Ltd. MaximusSolutions, Engineering Services Coordination, XTEK and AEC Consulting Engineers will adorn our Second Grade and Colts Grade jumpers in the Premier Division this season while Scott Property Services and Today’s Homes will adorn our Fourth Grade team in the Monaro Division competition.
Shorts sponsors O’Connor McNamara (Firsts), Pro-Tech Services & ABA Construction Managers (Seconds) Project Coordination & Rork Interiors (Colts) will be joined by new sponsors FM Projects & Capezio & Co (Fourths).
Our club will also receive support from our Silver and Bronze package sponsors, to ensure we represent a diverse but vibrant group within the Canberra and district business community.
Finally I urge all Old Boys and friends of Easts to join us on game days at Griffith Oval, to celebrate the game of rugby and our clubs ongoing participation in the ACT competition.
2008 FIRST GRADE GRAND TEAM
PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS CODE OF CONDUCT
All players and officials are required to familiarize themselves and strictly comply with the terms of the ACTRU Code of Conduct.
The Easts Code of Conduct requires that all players, coaching staff, officials and administrators:
· Respect the referee, touch judge or match officials’ decision;
· Not show dissension, displeasure or disapproval towards a referee, touch judge or match official’s decision in an abusive or unreasonable manner;
· Not abuse, threaten or intimidate either verbally or physically, a referee, touch judge or match official;
· Not abuse, threaten or intimidate either verbally or physically, the officials of another Club or spectators at any rugby match, official function or ACTRU sanctioned event;
· Not do anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult or humiliate another participant or spectator at any rugby match, official function or ACTRU sanctioned event, on the grounds of their religion, sexual orientation, disability, race, colour, or ethnic origin;
· Not behave in any manner, or engage in any activity, whether on or off the field, that is likely to bring the Club into disrepute or in any way impair positive public perception of the integrity and good character of the club, its members and sponsors;
· Respect the rights, dignity and worth of fellow players, coaches, officials, administrators and other club members;
· Be professional in, and accept responsibility for, their actions; and
· Demonstrate appropriate behavior at the licensed club and all official club functions.
Where an alleged breach of this Code of Conduct is reported to the Easts Rugby Club the Club Board may refer the matter to the Club Disciplinary Committee for consideration.
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club Alcohol Code of Conduct (ARU Document)
PRINCIPLES
This Code of Conduct aims to encourage and promote responsible attitudes and practices to alcohol through leadership and support. Sporting organisations, and individuals covered by this Code of Conduct have a role to play to help promote responsible drinking in society.
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club is committed to conducting its activities in a manner that encourages responsible service and consumption of alcohol.
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club accepts that it occupies a community leadership position in setting standards for a wide range of social and sporting behaviours.
Establishing benchmarks for responsible alcohol consumption and reducing the harm associated with excessive alcohol consumption is in the interests of Rugby Union at all levels and the wider community.
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club believes that all people involved in its activities, whether or not in the public arena, should be treated with dignity and respect.
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club appreciates that both Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club and individuals have responsibilities to give effect to responsible service and consumption of alcohol and will support and promote the principles of this Code.
Organisation Responsibilities
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club will play its part by:
- not allowing individuals to participate in any sporting activities expressly sanctioned by Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club if they are consuming alcohol or under the influence of alcohol;
- not encouraging the promotion or service of alcohol in and around competition areas at underage events expressly sanctioned by the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club;
- using its best endeavours to ensure that food and low alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks are available at any activity held or expressly sanctioned by Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club where alcohol will be served;
- encouraging responsible alcohol practices as well as being mutually supportive of individuals covered by this code of conduct, including providing support for individuals seeking assistance on alcohol related matters;
- ensuring that, where alcohol products are used as prizes/rewards, they are used in a responsible and appropriate manner; and
- complying with all relevant liquor licensing laws regarding the responsible service of alcohol.
Individual Responsibilities
Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club expects that individuals covered by this Code and undertaking activities associated with [insert name of sport] shall at all time where there is alcohol usage:
- behave in a dignified and professional manner that promotes and upholds standards of integrity, dignity and professionalism;
- act as role models for their club/team and [insert name of sport];
- not put themselves, club/team mates nor the general public at risk of serious physical and social harms;
- accept that they are responsible and accountable for the choices they make and the consequences of these choices;
- assist their club/team mates and others covered by the Code of Conduct if they have had too much to drink; and
- take reasonable action to both prevent alcohol problems and address any alcohol-related issues as they emerge.
Who does this Code apply to?
The Code applies to following individuals whether in a paid or voluntary capacity:
- registered players of Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club participating in teams or competitions conducted by or on behalf of Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club;
- accredited coaches and assistant coaches of teams organised by or on behalf of Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club;
- support personnel with whom the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club has a formal relationship;
- registered umpires, referees and other officials of Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club;
- office bearers or other officials of Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club.
Further, Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Club will encourage others who have an association with Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Clubs, such as members and affiliates, to support the principles of the code of conduct.
